The Indian Lotus flower symbolizes enlightenment, divinity, fertility, wealth, and knowledge. Many Indian deities are depicted sitting on a fully blossomed lotus flower, or holding a lotus flower. 

In Buddhism the lotus is known to be associated with purity, spiritual awakening and faithfulness. The flower is considered pure as it is able to emerge from murky waters in the morning and be perfectly clean. 

The lotus pose or Padmasana is one of the most sought after yoga poses. It has been a popular meditative position for thousands of years.
